What is Advocacy and when will I need to use it is a great question. Most people do not come across Advocacy on a day to day basis but it fills a vital role for those who need help to have their voices heard. This is especially true with members of society that are more vulnerable

When do you need an Advocate?

  • Attending a difficult interview or meeting where there are technical or legal issues involved
  • Write letters on your behalf
  • Speak in a situation which you feel you can’t handle
  • Getting people to listen to you

Can your spouse be your advocate?

Anyone can be an advocate including your spouse/partner. It can be a friend, or you can go out and find Advocates who work in charitable organisations or who you can hire for a fee

In some parts of Advocacy, there is a code of practice. I have attached in files (see example- Click here) and example Code of Practice from the seApwhich describes itself as “seAp is an independent charity that provides free independent and confidential advocacy services” ( Source ; seAp web site)
